Problems with numbers

Postby Heero808 » Wed Mar 28, 2007 9:03 pm

When I used the search function it wont use the numbers i typed it just uses the words i type. When I type for example bleach 120 when it searches bleach only. I just recently updated to 4.13.1.6 from 4.10 on a xp machine with Dsl speed

This is because the hosts you are searching also drops the numbers from searches, by doing it on your computer to it shows exactly what is happening, not what you think is happening.

Do you know why this is done? Would it generate too many results?

Sort of, it is the way query routing protocol (QRP) works. Including all numbers would lead to too many keywords and that means too many hash table entries, this in turn would break the QRP and so every search would flood the network to a standstill.

Hi NonP this interested me. There are times when the omission of numbers is a big problem imo.

What I have noticed is to do with words however and it is this:

Yesterday I wanted to search for the term "XXX and the YYY"

Typing in the full term gave me a tab headed XXXYYY with many good results. However typing in the sesarch term XXXYYY gave me almost no results in another tab labelled identically XXXYYY

So what I'm wondering is whether the typing in of numbers does have an effect, even if they are omitted in the search tab, in the same way short common words apparently are.

I shall investigate soon :)

I hope this makes sense LOL

I also noticed this but only on the newer versions of Frostwire. One of the reasons I went back to an older version. Without being able to enter numbers, that makes it real hard to search for the movies "300" or "The Number 23"..
