Let's start with basics.
First: Did you download from http://frostwire.com ? If not do so.
Check that you have the latest Version of Java http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
Use the right button menu to delete torrent and remove data for those torrents that are giving the error.
The remove data part is important. There could be a mismatch of data.
IF you are downloading individual items, make sure that are NOT from the same torrent. FrostWire can step on its own toes if you do that.
If you want to download multiple items from the same torrent, but not download the entire torrent, click on the + next to the name in the search window.

If this doesn't solve your problem, post again the the full text of the error message and we'll go from there.

the message comes up as" error\open fails, file not found C:/ programfilex86 ( and the file name)"

i just tried another torrent and a message came up as
"error/failed to create parent directory.C:/ programfiles(x86)FILE NAME

so im not to sure why it comes up with these messages in the status bar.. is there something wrong with frostwire?

FrostWire is OK

An error on the Download Directory usually means it is not available.
I'd guess that your download directory as specified in
tools>options>Bittorent Torrent save folder
is not valid. Make a folder and point to it by using the browse function.
See if that helps.

Those options, and I'm really saying this for all of those that read this, DO bear watching. I go through them all, every now and then, just to make sure I'm doing that I really intend to do. It really isn't that many!
