Re: FrostWire 5.3.2 out

Hi there, I just downloaded the torrent, 'frostwire-5.3.2.all.deb.torrent', and are ready to download the installer for FrostWire 5.3.2 .

I use PCLinuxOS and are not exactly sure how to install this package from the command line.

The version I have is 5.2.11 which I installed from our repository.

Yep, I'm new to linux so any help with this simple install would be greatly appreciated,

Thankyou !

Can someone tell me if FrostWire supports both torrents and gnutella or just torrents?

I know support for the gnutella network was dropped a while back but read somewhere online that it had came back, but couldn't see this in any change logs.

Gnutella and BitTorrent are two different networks and protocols. There have been programs that supported both networks, but Gnutella and BitTorrent are two different protocols. Think of VHS and BETA... both record, but use different formats.

I had Frostwire 4.21.5 until last nite and was requested to install the newer version. I installed it but then I couldn't load frostwire again. I tried to download again but still could not load. I have now uninstalled Frostwire and tried to reinstall but still am unable to load. I restalled the 4.21.5 version again but had an error message come up. See Below

Is anyone else having this problem???

FrostWire version 4.21.5
Java version 1.6.0_31 from Sun Microsystems Inc.
Windows XP v. 5.1 on x86

I know they are different. What I am asking is does FrostWire use the torrent network, the gnutella network or both like it previous did. The site mentions torrents but FrostClick mentions both. Does it support both networks again?

I misunderstood your question, sorry....

As I understand it, 5.3.2 and of of the 5.x.x versions are torrent only products. The developers recognized the logistical and practical advantages of the torrent protocol over gnutella and moved in that direction. They have stated that there is no intention of supporting gnutella again.

FrostWire, like many community supported projects, is constantly being refined. The current version is a working version for thousands.
The basic check list for FrostWire problems include:
Latest Version of FrostWire http://frostwire.com
Latest Version of Java http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
Firewall allowing FrostWire
Router allowing ports and/or set for UPnP

Here are some guidelines to asking for help viewtopic.php?f=1&t=455
and you can check out my FW help pages.

I downloaded 5.3.2 and both times I couldn't click on the search field only the "Hints by Google" field on the Search Tab. I checked the firewall and all seems well there. Any help at all?

The hints by google field IS the search field. Under that field, is the refine results field and is used to further limit that which has been found. Start with torrents and only torrents checked. UNCHECK TPB in the search engine list. At the moment, there is a problem there.

Hope that helps.

No problem... things are not always obvious. Especially with this TPB problem. Hopefully that'll be resolved shortly.

I'm new to this site and just recently went thru the forums finding out how things sorta work, I got along way to go. The question I have is I had the previous Frostwire 5. Thats all it says no 5.?.? I have been utilizing Frostwire for a little over a month, So whatever version that was out then is the one I started with. After reading in these forums it says Frostwire 5.3.3 is out. I got a notice that a new Frostwire was ready to be installed, so I downloaded it and it is Frostwire 5.3.4. I haven't seen a Frostwire 5.3.4 in these forums. So did I download one of those fake programs? Im no wizzz on a computer so it could have possible happened. Another question that I have is after installing that new Frostwire 5.3.4 (if that is the right one).
I download BitTorrent files and they go to my audio library in the Frostwire BitTorrent file. Now when I try to put them in a playlist and transfer to my media player, the playlist folder doesnt accept the songs. it says importing "song name" at the top of the playlist for a second then it says imported 00:00 0 tracks. I also tried to add a newly downloaded tune to an existing playlist and it took all the music out of that playlist, just by trying to add a newly downloaded file. Any feedback that I can get would be greatly appreciated. Im using Windows 7 as my operating system.
