Blocking sex content

Postby tgarciac » Thu Jun 04, 2009 9:17 am

There should be a way for parents to block kids from downloading sex videos with a password.

Hi tgarciac,

There is a filter in Tools > Options > Filters > Keywords > Ignore Adult Content.
This is not password controlled, however, and even if it was it would not eliminate sex videos altogether. The filter will eliminate certain words from search results, but there are many videos that have innocent titles but are, in reality, mislabelled sex videos.

Neither Frostwire, nor the Gnutella network, have any power to stop this happening since there is no central server, neither can they give any files any kind of parental rating. Files are uploaded directly to you by users like your self and files can not be checked prior to download, other than by checking with Bitzi. Bitzi is something which can tell you if a file is bad or mislabelled before downloading, but only if a user happens to have logged a report on the file. To use it, right-click on a file, move your mouse over Advanced and then click on Bitzi.

What I hope I have conveyed, is that there is no way, using Frostwire or any similar p2p client, to verify with certainty what you are getting. Put another way, it is not a child's toy and children should not be allowed unsupervised on any computer which has Frostwire, or for that matter any number of other applications installed and available to them, although I would imagine that you can lock the application altogether with a password using your Operating System.

i agree, I'm not worried about my daughter going on frost-wire i wouldn't let her. i am concerned about what some of the searches generate i looked up title "the children" a scary movie and i couldn't find most of what came said kiddie porn and that aint right. i don't have a problem with porn that has all adults in it but ones that say kiddie porn is messed up. i don't mean to be rude or anything but people might get the wrong idea i mean i didn't download any of that stuff but what if it really is kiddie porn and the wrong people get it and they download that stuff, cant it be like teaching a killer to kill better or teaching a robber how to rob better. its just that there are sick people out there.and that stuff is the equivalent of handing a loaded gun to a toddler, and should there be that stuff on there? have a nice day i thank u for your time in advance

PS I've tried the title several different times on different days and got that stuff, i mean i used to suggest frost-wire all the time i am not as much anymore. have a good day

The Chances are that it is almost definitly not child porn , probably more likely a virus . But I Agree That anything with a title such as that is twisted and messed up.

I keep a handy list of keywords to block porn and spam here: FilterKeyword.txt

Add all those to your keyword filter and that should cut the crap down a bit.
