Archive: FrostWire 4.20.9 - Now Released

Postby gubatron » Thu Aug 05, 2010 8:40 pm

Frostwire version 4.20.9 is now available from the official download link for all platforms.

We've listened to your complains and suggestions and worked on many Torrent related improvements. Many under the hood and some visible in the user experience.
The overall result? faster downloads of course. (We hit speeds of over 2,100 Kb/s on our tests when tweaking the new bittorrent settings -> Tools > Options > BitTorrent > Advanced)

The first thing you'll notice is that FrostWire (by default) can do 10 simultaneous BitTorrent downloads (instead of the 3 before 4.20.8), yay. You can adjust this number at the BitTorrent Connection Settings.

The next cool new feature is that now FrostWire searches thousands of legal torrents on ClearBits.net (formerly known as LegalTorrents.com), so you'll have direct search access to a lot of the cool and legal content the FrostClick.com Team works on displaying for you every day plus thousands of more legal content maintained by the folks at ClearBits.net.

More control over your BitTorrent Connectivity

Users with high speed connections will enjoy these very much. However, we warn you to not abuse with very high numbers since trackers might ban you, be sure to check what their policies are in respect to maximum number of peers per torrent.

PS: The team is working hard on a Debian source package release that will hopefully be accepted by Debian, if not we'll try to have it accepted on the Ubuntu main repository, hopefully after this FrostWire will come on every Ubuntu install by default or at least it'll be available via "sudo apt-get install frostwire" (keep fingers crossed). We're very close to complying with all the Debian policies, if we succeed this will mean a great milestone towards making FrostWire a mature Open Source project that really encompasses plenty of other open source projects in one wonderful technological mashup.
