Hardcoded VLC and Mplayer Dependencies

Postby Hailsematary » Thu Oct 20, 2011 5:31 am

Hi;

I'm packaging Frostwire for Pardus GNU/Linux[1].

While reviewing the package[2], one of the developers realized that vlc and mplayer are encoded in Frostwire. The archive we use to build the package is frostwire-5.1.5.noarch.tar.gz, which is not originally the source code tarball, so we are unable to patch the source code.

I'd like to request from you, that can vlc and mplayer hardcoded dependencies be changed with xdg-open in Linux systems? Otherwise we had to write down vlc and mplayer as strict dependencies to the package, and one can prefer any other media players rather than VLC and/or mplayer.

Thanks for your good work \o/

Hi, we don't have VLC as a dependency, however we DO depend on mplayer.

FrostWire's player controls communicate with mplayer via "pipes" so we do need that hardcoded dependency, so we can't really do xdg-open, we don't just open a file, we read information in real time from mplayer.

So:

1. No need to have VLC in there as a dependency.
2. You need to have mplayer as a dependency for FrostWire to work 100%.
