I suppose if you got here you downloaded it from the official website.

Did you try downloading the software again?

Does it open the main window and then crashes or it never opens the main window?

Can you open your "Console" (Cmd+Spacebar Console ENTER)

Completely shutdown frostwire.

On the "Console Messages" window, click on the "Clear" button to remove all previous logs. On the upper right where it says "String Matching" type "FrostWire"

Then launch FrostWire, try to reproduce the behavior, you should see some output on the "Console Messages" window, paste all of it over here to take a look.

OK, thanks for your prompt reply, have followed your instructions and copied Console info to you below.

Yes, the program loaded fine, no crashes or freezes, I shutdown FrostWire and restarted the computer. I now find that Google search works, but not the main Search button at the top. Hope this helps. I will be around for a short while, but then will be away until tomorrow, so don't worry if you don't get another reply from me today. Cheers.

P.S. Yes I did download from the official site. It told me there was a new update as soon as I loaded the program.

deanbar wrote:I just downloaded 5.3.6 but I can't get the Search button to work, or even the Google search button. I am using an Apple iMac running OSX Snow Leopard. Frostwire has always worked well previously. I checked all preferences, couldn't see anything obvious, (but I'm not very techie!) also shut program down and relaunched, still no good. Any ideas, please?

The basic check list for FrostWire problems include:
DO check java, the fire wall, and any security programs you may have running.
NOW: (for Win7. Other systems will have similar files)
From file explorer, navigate to use c:\users\YourAccount (assuming your system drive is c:\")
    and delete the folder: .frostwire5
Sadly I know nothing about a Mac, so I can't tell you where this file may be.
Hopefully, this will give you a direction to follow.

your FrostWire seems fine, sometimes FrostWire on Mac has issues releasing network resources from previous sessions and a restart might solve the issues. Other than that, I'd take a look at the firewall configuration, and give your internet router a restart, there's a lot that can go wrong on those, lots of routers get overwhelmed sometimes with bittorrent traffic or with UPnP (port mapping)

I must be dumb!!!! I re-installed FrostWire 5.2.11 and opened it. I saw that "search" at the top left, next to the Library tab, was not a button at all, but was more clearly defined as a tab rather than a button!!!

On the newer version 5.3.6 the Search tab at the top looks more like a button, and the "Hints by Google" down below looked like an alternative search option, instead of the actual search field. Sorry about this, my bad! On the older versions, the search tab at the top is more delineated, in other words, outlines the whole Search section, rather than appearing like a button as it does in this case - at least on the Mac version, I don't know about the Windows version how that looks. Maybe in next update you could consider outlining the search section more clearly, for jerks like me, lol.

Sorry for leading you on a wild goose chase, but I'm ok with it all now. Cheers.

It's all part of new design and experience trends. Buttons once pressed change colors. It's the same thing, it would never occur to us that you could not find where the search is being it the first button on the top left of the screen, and having a search icon next to it, and then when you press on it, the whole screen changes below...

I have found a lot of users confused by "Hints by Google". There is nothing to actually suggest that they should enter their search terms unless they associate the magnifying glass with 'find' or simply assume that they need to type there.
I think it should say something else.

Ok, we should put then something like

"Search here (hints by Google)"

or remove it altogether. We just want to make sure the users understand we're not the ones providing such hints, but Google.

btw, we're close to a new release, maybe today, we fixed finally issues on startup that would make startup slow under some connections.

A lot of cleanup done last week to make startup really fast, and no more issues shutting down.

Can't believe how much there is to learn with java, been banging this codebase since 2007 and still learning like a baby.

Does anyone know why ebooks have not been updated in over 6 weeks?
Thanks!

I don't think anyone on a FrostWire forum is likely to be able to answer that question for you.
Sorry.

im using v 5.37 and there is limited search results for any file

when asked to search more all it does is repeat a search.. v4 was able to search for more results from keywords

also when downloading a file all files seem to go into one complete file so you dont have the option to cancel any one download..you have to cancel the complete file.. this doesnt make sense !

It actually makes sense if you understand how torrents function. You have the option to select what files you want to download BEFORE you begin the torrent download, but once it has started and chunks have begun to load, the cancel affects the torrent, not any one file, which can be, and usually is, in several different chunks.

I normally get decent search results. Make sure that you have torrent type selected, and if that does not return enough, select more. If that is insufficient, use the index site directly OR use google. You are not limited to downloading torrents found by the built in search engines or by the algorithm. I often use http://isohunt.com or http://194.71.107.80/ which is the direct link to TPB.
