STICKY: Read this if you have been kicked/banned.

Postby Casper67 » Thu Feb 21, 2008 8:40 am

When you are chatting on any channel, the operators (ops, with an @ in front of the nick) are in complete control of that channel. What they say goes as far as rules are concerned and they can remove anyone from the channel for any reason. The easiest way to avoid getting kicked is to follow the channel rules and listen to warnings from the ops. All channels have their own specific rules, but here are a few general pointers.

You may have been kicked due to one of the following rules were broken

* Do not advertise or invite for other channels or web sites, especially those of a sexual or pornographic nature. Many users find this type of material offensive and ops will often kick and ban those who advertise on a channel. Also Mass-Advertising, however you do it, is BANNED on PeerCommons and will get you banned from the network completely.
* Do not flood the channel with large popups (text pictures) or by repeating over and over again. Generally, more than 5 lines in 5 seconds is considered flooding. (will end in a Ban set by the channel Bot)
* Do not harass other users or argue with channel operators.
* Do not message or DCC people without asking them on channel first. It's rude. (DCC is disabled on PeerCommons)
* Do not use ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. It is hard to read and considered to be shouting.
* Please respect the language of a channel. Many channels allow a mixture of languages, equally many do not.
* Don't use offensive or abusive language either on channel or in private.
* Never, ever use any kind of script to flood, nuke, harass or annoy others. Nuking is actually ILLEGAL and flooding can get you banned from the network

In general, behave in a polite and respectful manner toward others and you are unlikely to have a problem.

IF BANNED...

DON'T PANIC. Getting banned is a fact of life on IRC - it happens to everyone. What you can do about it depends on why you are banned. If you get kicked from a channel & then find you are banned, you have probably broken a channel rule. What you should do is look at the kick message and note the nickname of the operator who kicked you. You can then use this command to politely ask for the ban to be removed:
/msg opsnick your apology (for example, /msg Casper` sorry - I made a mistake. )

NOTE: Channel operators are NOT obliged to lift any ban. If they won't there is NOTHING you can do, except go and find another channel.

If on the other hand you try to join a channel you have not visited before and find you are banned, it's probably not your fault. In some cases it is necessary to ban a complete ISP from a channel or even from a network. In this case there is probably nothing you can do, as this kind of ban is usually placed by a Super OP (sop) and is enforced by ChanServ. Only a sop or the channel founder can lift this kind of ban. These bans are really not that common.

On some channels, individual ops maintain a list of offensive people who they will kick and ban automatically if they join the channel. If this happens to you, you have almost certainly deserved it and the chances of it being lifted are very slim. Once again, /msg the op concerned and politely apologize.

I understand these perfectly and clearly. What I DON'T understand is why I'm banned every time I connect to FrostWire Community Chat. I was on yesterday, and was able to speak and everything, because two days ago, I had been blacklisted. I know I do absolutely do nothing wrong, I follow the rules. I logged out quietly without a word, and connected today to find out again that I had been restricted from connecting. I want to know what's going on. It doesn't give me a message with a name:
***You are currently banned by a host in this chat room due to violations of the Code of Conduct. You may be able to rejoin at a later time.
If I'm going to be banned every other day for not even SPEAKING on FrostWire, I don't want to even be a part of it. I have considered the possibility of my ten year old sister logging on and screwing up my identity, but that's impossible. I'm very frustrated with FrostWire, and the last time I logged on, no mods gave me information on the ban even though I asked. I've been a very good rule follower, only got kicked around 5 times, once for being excited, once for saying 'capacha', twice-three times for demonstrating restricted words. And they were Automatic kicks. Again, I want to be told WHY I'm all of a sudden banned and blacklisted OFFLINE. Thanks.

You have not said if you were using the nick Demi, or whether you have registered/protected the nick, nor have you provided any logs or screenshots to illustrate what you say. If you can give us some confirmation that you used this nickname and/or possible others and of the times you have been online and your timezone we can try to take a look into it ... also please check that no one else with access to your computer might have possibly logged in using your nick .... this has been known to happen on several occasions, yes even with 10 year old sisters ....

I have school so I'm online around 6PM-9PM in general.
That would be Central Time. =/ I use the nicknames Demi and Classical. They're both registered to me.
The reason I said it was impossible for my sister to use it, is because she wouldn't recognize the symbol in the system tray. Nor would she find the "Community Chat" tab. Much less be able to click 'Connect' and enter my password.

Unfortunately we have had to ban a range of ip addresses in your locality due to serious abuse by some users. I regret that you have been affected by this which will prevent you entering Support, Lobby and a few other rooms, but if you type /list or click on room list there are many other rooms. Again my apologies, but in this case the ban (not on you but on your IP address) is very necessary, and we are sorry it has affected you.

So...what do you do when you are banned to the point that you get kicked off as soon as you click connect with a whisper to follow and you have broken no rules?

No, actually. My ban whisper read "(bye pedo)", which I am assuming means "pedophile". I am a 20-year-old female, and have been accused of being a perverted old man.

@CaliforniaRaisins we are looking into this. I may need to wait for the Operator concerned ... but it does appear we may have banned some fellow members of a banned members IP .. We need to do this sometimes for perpetual offenders. Please bear with me until I have some more information.

@MsEllanious You have not said what exactly the whispered kick message was or exactly when it occurred .. also please tell us what nick you have in Tools Options Community Chat >

Being banned from one channel is nothing to fret over.. we have over 200 channels + if you bothered to try asking in #support or #appeals then you'd probably get a little farther, we cant help you if we don't have any of your information for comparison, could be that a ban was placed that matches part of your address, we have many miscreants that misbehave and get banned and do things to change their address to return, therefore a more stringent ban is needed, if it affects you then sorry, nothing we can do until that ban expires.

Pedophiles are not welcome on our network, they are removed as soon as found without discretion, no questions, no second thought. Due to the insecure dynamic nature of the offender in question's isp, drastic measures were needed, i cannot faithfully remove the ban and allow the offender to return to our network, the only thing i can suggest is to change your service provider, i'm not going to knowingly open the gate for any pedophile to return.. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you, but you should be able to determine that the course is whats best for our young (13 and up) user base.

Sorry about that. I have used this nick a couple times but mainly I use MistressOfMayhem. It is very strange: i was able to log in this morning and around noon, but I tried to log in at five and the message popped up again! Idk if its time related or what, but anyways.... here's what it says...

***whisper from chat.frostwire.com*** you have been banned from PeerCommons (Your host is listed in a Proxy Monitor Blacklist).. and then it gives me a url to visit, which gets me nowhere and an email to the frost support people, who i have emailed and recieved nothing back from. I have never been given this, i've never spammed, and like most frost users only occasional kicks from Main. I am not a rule breaker, I have no clue why this is or how this happened...

@MsEllanious. It is evident you have a dynamic IP (ie one that changes probably each time you log in to the internet) since the IP address for both your posts is slightly different. I presume that one of the IPs or more that you have used is caught up in the filter we use to block proxies ... it is not infallible. I am unsure of how the URL you visited works ... it has only recently been introduced afaik. If you entered anything there it may take a while to be acted upon.

Re-setting your modem should hopefully cure the problem. It would be useful if you could let me or THX1138 know by PM not here in the open forum the IPs that do or don't work. At any time you can visit http://www.whatismyip.com and it will tell you your current IP address.

@THX1138 er Demi's post was from 18 months ago lol ... I think we cured her problem ... and btw if shes reading ..hope to see you again soon Demi :)

MsEllanious was the other problem I was hoping we could look at. I'm guessing her Dynamic IP sometimes clashes the last segment of her IP has changed in the second Forum post.

According to the blacklist that you are on;

Your.Hidden.Address was found in the database with a create date of Monday 13th of September 2010 07:49:17 PM
This host was added as a virus/trojan infected host for the following reason:
drone [[R57]]: nick njkHmsVc; hostmask ~njkHmsVc@Your.Hidden.Address; gecos "njkHmsVc "; extra "removed.server.spam bla" [removed.server.spam]
For further information, please contact a site administrator.
Please perform a full virus scan before requesting removal.

Appears to be a viri irc bot/drone infection.

Would suggest a full virus scan, you can also try this software ( the free edition ) it is very effective and i use it to fix other peoples machines all the time.

After a full virus scan you can request removal through here.

Even if we remove the local ban on our server, the blacklist entry will reset it immediately after you join until you have yourself removed from the blacklist.
