How to download .torrent files with FrostWire (BitTorrent)

I'm running the latest version of java and my PC is set up to automatically check for and install Java updates as they're released. Up until deleting the the "AZUREUS" folder I was using Frostwire 4.20.6 with the latest Java release perfectly, no connection problems whatsoever. I don't see how this could be a JVM issue? Very frustrating. Any and all additional ideas will be appreciated.

Okay, latest status. I re-installed frostwire 4.20.06 over the version I already had, re-booted the PC and all seems to be working fine again in regards to being able to connect. I gained Turbo connection almost instantly. Downloaded a song just to test things out and all worked well. Later this evening I'll try another Bit-Torrent download and see if it works or not and report back with the result.

Hopefully last reply. I was able to download a Torrent file successfully this evening and no issues with connection so all is working fine, at leat right now LOL ! Thanks for all the help.

Okay the initial problem is back. I tried downloading a second Bit-Torrent file and Frostwire just hung on "Locating Sources" just like before. I then shut Frostwire down, went to the preference folder and again deleted the "Azureus" folder. Then I re-started frostwire and everything came up fine with Turbo connection. Then I went to the site of the Bit-Torrent file, clicked for download and Frostwire picked it up with no problem and download was successful. So... as it stands the only way I can successfully download Bit-torrent files is if I go back and erase the "Azureus" folder after each and every download, then restart Frostwire to create a fresh new "Azureus" folder. The conflict must be within that folder somewhere ?

Thanks but I do need help. I'm sure that having to delete the "Azureus" folder after each and every Torrent download is not the way the application is supposed to work. There's either a bug in Frostwire that needs fixing or there's a conflict between something in Frostwire and other program content on my PC. Either way it's not working right.

Don't look for an answer anytime soon. By the looks of it the mods or the folks really in the know about the Frostwire program only get to this forum to address issues and questions once or twice a week. I leave for a week's vacation today so I'm hoping there's an answer waiting for me when I get back.

I'm having the same problem as everyone else, however when I try to download, it's like it isn't downloading. It doesn't say that it's queued or anything. I have the latest version of Java, as well as the new version of Frostwire. I've tried some of the suggestions listed in this thread (re-installing, deleting the "azureus" folder, etc.) but nothing has worked.

Well I don't know what happened but about several weeks after my last post (back in May) everything started working properly and I was able to download Torrents without any kind of manual intervention. I honestly can't remember changing anything on my system to make it work but it's working fine now so I'm not complaining

Can someone answer two basic question:
1. What is the difference between a 'torrent' file and the downloadabe files in FrostWire? If there is a difference, how do you tell them apart?

2. If you give maximum bandwidth to 'upload' does this affect the speed at which you can download?

1. There is no definite difference in the files themselves although Torrent files tend to be larger. Torrents being more suited to files of several hundred Megabites or more, although they can be found from around 50MB up.

The great advantage if Frostwire/Gnutella files is that small files can be shared. Images .. small music files etc. There is an upper limit of the size of file that can be transferred, I think. This limit used to be 2 GB but I am not sure if this is still the case. Torrents can be many files or ZIP or Rar Archives. all in one folder. Gnutella files are always a single file .. or Archive file ..although its probably wise to avoid most zip files in Gnutella downloads as many are bad files .. viruses etc.

Just to clarify there is also a small file which is a name followed by .torrent and these are the files which contain nothing but the information that your Torrent client uses to download the Torrent.

2. Some isp packages will allow you to download more if you are not uploading ... with other packages and afaik more usually upload and download are entirely separate and do not affect each other, although typically maximum download speeds will be a lot higher than maximum upload speeds.

I was having the same problem as it sounds everyone else is having now. Here's what I did: I downloaded the latest version of Frostwire, and I have to latest versions of Java and Mac. but Frostwire wouldn't download anything. So what I had to do was uninstall Frostwire from my Mac, and then re-install Frostwire 4.18.5 and everything is fine now. I'm not sure why I couldn't download anything, the only thing that comes to mind is that 4.20.7 is still being experimented on.

Which version OS X do you have? I assume 10.6.x but please confirm, and which java versions (see Applications >Utilities >Java) Can you tell us whether your machine is 32 bit or 64 bit and I never did work out how to tell .. Java preferences may give you a clue.

Did you make a clean install: i.e. totally remove Frostwire and its preferences or just upgrade?

I have tried all the things suggested to resolve the torrent problem, none have seemed to work.
I have Frostwire 4.20.7 and Java 1.6.0_21 (Both the most recent as far as I can tell).
Any other suggestions? I am moving soon and wont have access to home internet and I'd like to get some movies downloaded.

Some torrents just will not download. You could try a torrent client like utorrent just to see if they will work with that. If they do not look for other torrents.
