Can't play an mp3 on Windows Media Player

Postby EdgeHead » Tue Jul 03, 2012 5:32 pm

I know it's not directly related but I downloaded an mp3 from Frostwire 5.3.7 and when I wanted to play it on my Windows Media Player, it said that the "media format was incorrect". First time I ever had that problem after downloading a file, what's wrong exactly?

On of two things are happening: 1) (and the most likely) is that it is a bad download that is trying to direct you to a site to infect your computer with a virus or trojan. 2) The player you are using does not have all of the codecs needed to function properly. I use VLC http://www.videolan.org/ for video and http://www.winamp.com/ for songs.

They will play almost everything. If VLC won't play it, it is bad, and you should look for the item in different torrent from another index site. While VLC will play music, I prefer the interface of winamp for music list. VLC is great for videos.

Thanks for the tip. I asked that because I usually play an mp3 I download on my Windows Media Player to make sure it works. I'll be extra careful in my next downloads!

I've never used the windows media player. I try to use NO Microsoft products other than the OS. I use open source for most of what I do. SourceForge is a great resource!
