Cannot update new version because trident.jar is in use

Postby canncann28 » Tue May 22, 2012 12:40 am

Ok, so I am trying to upgrade my version of Frostwire and when it's time for me to drag and drop the new version into my applications folder, it says the action cannot be completed because trident.jar is in use. When I am attempting this, I don't have ANY other program open or running. I am operating Mac OS X 10.6.8. I know nothing about what trident.jar is or how to find it. I tried searching for it on my hard drive but that didn't work. PLEASE help

Sorry for the very late reply - we seem to have overlooked this. I assume you are updating from a previous Frostwire5 version.

Go to applications and control click on Frostwire > show package dafter ensuring Frostwire is fully contents go to the java folder and find and delete the trident.jar file.

All should now work, although why this should have occurred is a mystery.

I also have a mac OS X 10.6.8 and the same message appeared about trident.jar when I attempted to drag the latest version of Frostwire into my app folder so I followed the instructions and went to Frostwire.app in my applications folder and control clicked on it, then selected Show Package Contents>Contents>Resources>Java> then found trident.jar and deleted it.
Then I tried again to download the latest version but when I attempted to drag it over to my app folder I received the message that it can't be done because Substance.jar is in us so I repeated the process to delete substance.jar and tried it again but this time when I tried to click on Frostwire to open it and receive the option to download latest version it wouldn't open at all so I had to delete the whole program and re-install it. What the heck are these .jar files?

Jar files are Java container files. FrostWire is java based and it is critical to have the latest java in place to have FrostWire to work.

It sounds like you found a back door way of doing that!
