So I'm new to this Frostwire torrent thing....

Postby EdgeHead » Sat Mar 10, 2012 1:51 am

...and since I've used the old version (4.21.8) with the Gnutella network, I'm confused as to how I can share my mp3 files currently on my computer so I don't look like a leecher. How can I do that?

Sharing one file at a time on torrents really isn't the best idea. If you download a torrent, seed it back. That's how to avoid looking like a leecher. You may find this informative: http://catfangz.com/frostwire/torrentsh ... aring.html

I wasn't necessarily talking about sharing only 1 file at a time but more about a whole folder but if you say that re-seeding torrents is the way to do, I'll proceed that way.

But how come, for instance, earlier I downloaded only one song (These Days from Foo Fighters) but when I checked to see if it was placed in the proper folder, I saw that it had like 2 or 3 other songs as well. Is it normal or is there a way I can just get one song from a particular torrent? (Sorry if I sound annoying but I'm really not comfortable yet with torrents, guess practice will make perfect!)

The link I gave you should have answered your question on torrent sharing.
This link will tell you how to download a single file.
http://catfangz.com/frostwire/SingleFile.html
All of these links are contained in the link in my sig.
So far, every question you asked has been answered in those pages.

As a point of interest, torrents, due to the way they are organized, can give you partial files, but these will be deleted when you close the torrent. You will get the file you request, though.

EdgeHead, make sure you have FrostWire 5.3.3 (latest released yesterday)

The easiest way to share files is to drag a folder or a file into the FrostWire window. A dialog will show with different ways to send the file, a shortened HTTP link or a Magnet link you can send or put on a website, just make sure you leave FrostWire open to be the first seed.

There's no limit to the size of file (just what your computer can hold), no limit of bandwidth, and the people on the other side don't need to deal with Ads, Timer Countdowns or confusing websites that lead them to download other crap. They just get the file you send them.

It also works under some local area networks, great for people at work or school. Superb to send lots of high res family pictures, or HD videos. No need for rapid share, media fire, or uploading your personal files to third party servers, it's all glorious p2p.

Drag and drop the files, and send the link.

The other person will only need to have installed FrostWire or any other BitTorrent client to receive the files. The more people you send the link, the better.

You could host a lot of media and put the links on a website and save thousands of dollars on bandwidth costs, this is how we distribute FrostWire updates :)
