Updating Frostwire.

Postby david4564444 » Tue Nov 03, 2009 10:07 pm

Hello i am new to the fourms but not to Frostwire. Anyway I'm wondering will all my songs be deleted if i upgrade to 4.18.1? Do i have to unistall FW to download the latest version? And two more questions, Frostwire is going so slow for me yesterday it was fine but today it was slow, maybe i just need to restart my computer or update to the newest version and lastly i used frostwire 1 year ago on another computer and one day i pressed the icon and waiting for it to load all my songs were gone why was that? thank you. :D

Okay, I had to quote you to remember the questions :P

Yes, they may be, there's always been that problem with songs, being hidden or deleted.

So what I suggest is.. backing them up, go to tools >> options >> saved (might be options >> tools >> saved)
Then find what folder your files are being saved in, then manually go to the folder, and I suggest making a .zip version. ( download 7 zip if you don't have a zipping application )

Then install, personally I remove the old frostwire with Revo Uninstaller before I download the latest, but it shouldnt matter.

Ok, as for your files downloading slow, tyhat's more to do with the people you're downloading from, they might only be sharing them at a slow speed.

And lastly this could be a number of things, not to mention... you deleted them? lol. Glad that's last year so we don't have to sort that out as well.

TIP: Might as well wait for the newest Frostwire version to be released.

There has in the past been a problem for some users' downloads downloading to their Program files Frostwire Folder which should never have happened, for reasons we have not quite fathomed and this maybe happened to you .. The latest version of Frostwire should not allow this to happen.

However as The_Fox suggests it is always wise to make backups of all your important files. .. Just in case .....

The songs in your Frostwire library should be somewhere ... highlight one and click explore to show where it is. I am aware that some song files have proved very elusive especially in Vista and XP SP3 and care must be taken saving them from being deleted.

hi lovinmy3boys4life,

oh boy, have you got problems. before you do anything else, run a search for all audio files and back them up to an external HDD or a new folder on your desktop.

i, or somebody else, will give a better answer latter. if you have trouble finding your audio files, download and install this program http://www.piriform.com/recuva to find them for you. i dont know anything about this program but apparently its magic.

someone will get back to you soon.

hi lovinmy3boys4life,

have you backed up your music files? if not, your next post is probably going to be 'the computer ate my files'

it is important you understand frostwire is one program on your computer, it downloads music from somewhere out there and puts it in your computer. thats pretty much all it does.
itunes is a completely different program, it gets music thats in your computer and plays it, or syncs it to a device. they arent connected in a break it kind of way. you have to tell itunes to find your music files or where to find the music files.
something unfortunate has happened, but i dont think the FW program broke your itunes program, what did happen to itunes? or more to the point i suppose is, what isnt itunes doing since you updated to 4.18.3 ?
there is a link somewhere on here to find old FW versions but i cant seem to find it today.(i found one for linux, but i'm guessing you'll have windows something.) really, i dont think old versions are going to help you, they might, but i think yours is a different problem.

if you havent sorted it out please let us know a bit more about what your computer is doing to you so we can get it fixed.

I've used Recuva before. It hasn't found all my deleted files. Advanced File Recovery arguably works the best.I say it, because this program helped me to recover my deleted term paper and some valuable photos.
