bugs - 6.4.5

I am finding the last two builds almost unusable. Windows10

1. continually downloading same files over and over (introduced 6.4.4)
2. will not allow more than 12 downloads (setting is set to 100)
3. restart the application, and lose most of the download/finished lists. have to add new downloads for it to come back ... only maybe since 6.4.5
4. use the filter, and then try to unfilter - it blanks the list. have to restart
5. deletes unfinished downloads randomly
6. search for a file - it finds. restart, search again, it never finds.
7. the d/l & u/l speeds show more than the total in the list

I prefer the Frostwire interface to all others - so hope these can be addressed. Especially first 3 - as these are basic functionality that are ruining the app.

  • 1. continually downloading same files over and over (introduced 6.4.4)
could you expand what do you mean by this? does this mean the download finishes and starts from scratch again? or that the download never finishes?
is it stuck at a particular percentage of completion?
    2. will not allow more than 12 downloads (setting is set to 100)
could you please send us a screenshot of your torrent settings screeens, there are several variables involved here:
active downloads, active seeds, max number of connections and max number of seeds.
    3. restart the application, and lose most of the download/finished lists. have to add new downloads for it to come back ... only maybe since 6.4.5
I'd suggest cleaning up your FrostWire preferences folder, in Windows it should be somewhere in your user folder under ".frostwire5", just make sure you don't have any downloads going before you do this as you will lose their states, but it might get rid of the weird behavior you're getting
    7. the d/l & u/l speeds show more than the total in the list
this might be because there's other traffic while you download that's related to protocol data (the DHT, other messages need to go in and out for the p2p communication), or you might be downloading or seeding a frostwire update, which isn't listed in the transfers

Please let us know more. In any case, we're very close to releasing 6.4.6 with a lot of fixes on our BitTorrent engine, some might affect issues related to download finishing
  • Update: just an hour ago our new bittorrent library was released, we'll be making test builds later today, perhaps you want to take one for a spin

  • Sadly - the issue persists in 6.4.6.

    1. The file reaches 100% and says "finished" or "seeding" - and will stay that way till I have to restart the client. In version 6.4.4 - it would stay at 100% and download the file anyway. Version 6.4.5 & 6, it resets to 0% then downloads again. Screenshot from 6.4.6.

    2. Settings screen. Any other d/l after the 12th one goes to PAUSE. I have to stop one of the others from downloading to get the latest downloading.

    3. will try later ....

    7. Related to the full list not showing - so Frostwire knows they are there and d/l & seeds them, just does not list them. So this is related to 3.
  • as for the number of active downloads, I see a lot of transfers there are "Finished" and not "Seeding".
If these are BitTorrent downloads, I suppose you have "Seeding" turned off, am I right?
  • >2. Settings screen. Any other d/l after the 12th one goes to PAUSE. I have to stop one of the others from downloading to get the latest downloading.

We will try to replicate this one on our end, perhaps you found a recently introduced bug.
  • This is with 6.4.6 - 223 also - correct.
Seeding is turned on (setting is 10 active seeds max.) - although I don't think it has ever done this - probably 5 max. I do not know when this began.
  • Thanks, now we know we got more work to do :)

  • thanks for the awesome work. Back to being the best.
  • said too soon. It restarted without beginning to redo the finished/seeding files over again - so was impressed. I added a new torrent, and it wiped out some the finished (2 out of 20), and half those partial downloaded(10 of of 20), resetting them to 0%. There is no logic to the ones it reset - some are from last week, some months old.
  • this might be another bug I found later with the "filter transfers here" textbox that's above the transfers.

Make sure to delete (several "Delete" key hits) the field very well for all transfers to appear correctly, [before this patch](https://github.com/frostwire/frostwire/ ... 0a043498bd) it was filtering more than it had to and some (or all) transfers would dissapear (visually)
