.avi files

I have downloaded several .avi files and most won't run with any player. They also aren't even recognised by any player or conversion utility. Whats the deal?

    To possibilities:
You need a better avi player: http://www.videolan.org/
    Or you downloaded bogus files.
Try vlc. If it won't play it, try a different torrent from a different person.
There are many bogus files out there. DO read reviews before downloading time consuming.

Good advice. I view all of my .avi files (I have about 100 of them) via VLC and have yet to encounter a problem.
