Frostwire 6 launcher stopped

Hi, since updating to version 6.04 my downloads keep crashing or dropping out after about 5-7 minutes. Has been like this since this latest version from about 2-3 weeks ago.

I get a FrostWire/Windows prompt that says the "FrostWire Launcher" has stopped and windows is looking for a solution
I am running windows 8.1 Pro on a dell intel pc i.7-3770 CPU 3.6ghz64 bit operation with 16gb ram.

all previous versions ran perfectly fine

any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • There have been problems in release six that affect various operating systems if a variety of ways. When you get hit by one of these errors, about the only thing you can do is drop back to a release that worked for you. If you had a function release six, you can possibly simply reinstall it. If you last functional release was five you need to take a little more care.

You can find old versions on: http://www.oldapps.com/frostwire.php I'm using version 5.7.7 with no problems.

To drop back to version 5 from 6 requires some attention. You can find old versions on: http://www.oldapps.com/frostwire.php I'm using version 5.7.7 with no problems.

Before installing a version 5, I'd completely remove versions 6. Use revo, a free unintaller and go above the standard uninstall.

NOW: (for Win7. Other systems will have similar files)
From file explorer, navigate to your c:\users\
    YourAccount
(assuming your system drive is c:\") and delete the folder: .frostwire5
This forces a reinitialization of FrostWire, so you will have to answer the setup questions.

After a revo uninstall, you may not find this folder.
Now, install the version 5 program that you have selected and hope for the best.

May I add that deleting the .frostwire5 folder is really quite critical to going backwards to a previous version of FW. As such, a Search of the file system *may* be necessary to find and delete it?
