STICKY: Error opening file for writing/Frostwire not loading
In a prior post it was stated:
So I decided to re-install FrostWire because I remember there being a small issue with the installation. I ran into the same thing when I went to install: Error opening file for writing C:\Program Files (x86)\Frostwire\fwplayer.exe This time I ignored it instead of skipping it when asked (you know, it say abort , ignore, or skip). I started up Frostwire and it worked and all my torrents are there.
In various posts, I've seen this error mentioned. From personal experience, and some time spent with Google, I can only a few reasons for this error, and that is that this file is in use, i.e., opened by another program or executing, is in a write protected folder or is read only.
The folder program files is not write protected. If there is an error there, it is likely that what you are trying up update is still running, somewhere, somehow. In the case of FrostWire, was it completely terminated? Check the task manager and see if you can find it listed. If so, terminate it. It's possible that something is set to load at start up and is causing problems.
When you get everything properly shut down, try a reinstall, but ALL modules to be changed must be terminated and write enabled for an update to function.
You need to clean install to insure proper execution.
